Used Book Ministry for Inmates
The Used Book Ministry for Inmates is represented by Jeff Poling, Earla Shaffer, Eric Hanson, Terri Drollinger, Janice Bettisch, Darlene Loy, and Eloise Foote.
We offer free Christian resources including Bibles, books, devotionals, and concordances to inmates so that they may come to know Christ and be transformed into His image.
Inmates request books from a catalog the ministry distributes periodically. (The ministry is totally dependent on books donated by individuals, businesses, or other charitable organizations.) Over the course of several months, volunteers review, catalog and shelve books for inclusion in the next book offering. Once enough books have been accumulated, a new catalog of books is published.
Volunteers then gather to stuff envelopes to nearly 1,000 inmates and chaplains throughout IL and WI. As inmates request books from the catalog, volunteers create individual packing slips for each order, books are packaged, and prepared for mailing. This cycle continues as a new book catalog is released several times a year.
